As a business grows, key questions arise as to when and how to undergo the inevitable digital transformation of the business system. In the new paradigm of the modern company, it is not just about the introduction and implementation of ERP. Digital transformation is much more than that…

Digital transformation, what is it? All-knowing Google leads us to over sixty websites that tell us more or less the same thing: it is a process in which the business system, through the integration of digital technologies into all business segments, enables it to be more competitive in the market and offer more to its customers. Do we really need all that? The answer is easy – not necessary, but inevitable. It is an unstoppable and irreversible process. After all, our so-called ordinary, everyday life has been undergoing digital transformation for years without really being aware of it.

Need an example of this? A couple of answers to the following questions will help us: how do we communicate with others, how do we come up with useful information, how do we know what is happening in the world? The answers for the vast majority of the population, except in the senior category, are: SMS / WhatsApp / Viber and e-mail on the first question, searching the Internet and reading web pages on the second and following the news distribution portals on the third. So, there are no phones (in the most traditional way possible), books, newspapers and magazines bought at the kiosk.

All this, but in a far shorter time, happens in every business, sooner or later. This “later” is not very far, because every day of delay brings even shorter deadlines and an even higher price that you will pay, and it can happen to you that, no matter how much you pay or intend to pay, it is worthless to you because – you are late.

The digitalization process means a high intensity of application of new digital technologies in all areas of work and business of the enterprise in order to improve business operations, discover new business models, strengthen business intelligence and connect businesses with customers and stakeholders.

The three main areas of business for all companies, large or small, where digitalization should bring the most benefits are:

Creating New Customer Values – Digital businesses are redefining the complete way of doing business to find new sources of value for their savvy customers. This involves constantly monitoring the requirements, desires and habits of customers, often outside the boundaries of their supply and outside the industry in which they are located.

Creating Value in Core Business – Through digitization, the company can connect all its organizational units and communication channels with customers along the entire value chain, thus offering a unique and standardized user experience.

Improving the fundamental capabilities of digitally transformed businesses – means that technology and new business processes are fast and agile. When making business decisions, digital businesses rely on the up-to-date data and select data they now have in their databases. In the long run, they encourage innovation at all levels and broaden the knowledge sharing culture.

Digital transformation is not an easy job, but it is necessary. Whoever understands it will succeed and who does not understand it will stagnate and fail quickly.
