Shared hosting, cloud hosting or dedicated hosting – which hosting suits your business needs

You are told that you need hosting to support your business needs, but you are not an IT expert. Nor does your business budget allows hiring one. And with a simple research you noticed that terms like “cloud” or “dedicated server” are everywhere, often with very different explanation. With each new search, you actually have more questions than answers…At the end of the research you are still at the beginning with the same question – which hosting suits your business needs?

To help you make the best decision, we compared three main hosting solutions you will need to consider with a small guide to recognize the one that suits your business needs:

Shared Hosting

Shared hosting is the most popular option out there. For someone just starting a business or a SMB, it can easily handle all of their needs.

Shared hosting is very similar to living in an apartment with roommates – all of you share the same kitchen, dishes and fridge, or in hosting terms – disk space, memory and CPU time. If you remember your dorm days, than you remember how affordable was it to live with roommates.

Since it requires the least amount of the tech knowledge and financial investment, this is definitely the best option to start with when the budget and IT expertise are limited.

Cloud Hosting

On the other hand, Cloud is more like renting an apartment in a building. Now you are in the charge of your space, but you still have to share parking places or pool with your neighbours.

Technically, you will get a complete personal server with dedicated memory, CPU and disk space all packed in a Cloud. Along with this type of hosting, you will get 100% control of your own server.

If you are a medium to large business or an organization that wants to be completely independent of IT systems but you still have limited budget, than Cloud Hosting is the solution for your business.

Dedicated Server Hosting

Sharing an apartment or thinking if there will be available parking space was okey when you were a student or when you had a junior job title. Once you start earning enough to buy your own house – there is no reason for sharing anymore.

Dedicated server is exactly that – a luxury house with a parking space and a pool just for you or, let’s be geeky, It is a physical server dedicated only to you. There is no need to worry if anyone will slow you down, because you have the access to the server so you can manage it. Control, security and a high storage capacity are the main strength of this solution, but from this point you will need or IT knowledge or an IT expert as well as a bigger wallet.

To finalize, if you are a large business looking for a security and high capacity / speed, than settle for anything less than dedicated server.

How to choose the right one?

Before you make any decision, do not forget to focus on your business needs. If you are a startup or small company, go with the basic shared hosting and follow the growth of your business and needs in next period. But if you already overcame the junior period, than you will need Cloud or Dedicated server.
